Community children's nursing
What is a Children’s Community Nurse?
The Children’s Community Nursing Team consists of nurses who have specialist training and experience in the care of sick children. We provide a vital link with other professionals to provide holistic care to children and their families.
We aid in preventing hospital admission and supporting early discharge by teaching and supporting families to manage their child’s condition in their own home.
Within the team we have specialist nurses who specialise in:
- Epilepsy
- Sickle cell disease
- Palliative care
- Nursery nurses who can provide baby massage for premature babies, bereavement support, play therapy and food play therapy
We provide a service between 08:30-20:00 Mon – Fri and 08:30-19:00 Saturday and Sunday.
Who does a Children’s Community Nurse care for?
We care for children from birth to 19 years of age living within the Basildon, Billericay, Brentwood, Thurrock, and Wickford areas.
- Examples of the care we provide:
- Wound care
- Administration of intravenous, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medication
- Bloody monitoring
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Sleep studies and support for premature babies
- Nasogastric and gastrostomy care
- Oncology support
- Care for children with long term condition
