NELFT celebrates International Women’s Day
On International Women’s Day, NELFT wants to take the opportunity to celebrate all the amazing women who make up over 80% of our workforce.
With well over a century of history and change, the first International Women's Day IWD was held in March 1911. This day isn't country, group, or organisation specific. It's a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all those committed to forging women's equality.
World-renowned feminist, journalist and activist, Gloria Steinem, reportedly once explained:
"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."
The day is aimed at raising awareness of the need for gender equality, both celebrating past achievement and working towards what still needs to be achieved in the future.
This year's theme is #InspireInclusion. Inspiring others to understand and value women’s inclusion helps women to feel a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment, forging a more inclusive world for women.
This year, at NELFT we’re inspiring inclusion with an event for our staff organised by our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team and The Women’s Network with the aim to highlight our commitment to gender equality and to celebrate, inspire and champion the rights of women.
