NELFT celebrates Autism Acceptance Week at Dagenham Library

Autism Acceptance Week is an important event dedicated to raising awareness, educating the public, and promoting inclusivity for people on the autism spectrum. The theme this year is ‘Celebrating Differences’.

This year, the Adult Autism Service at NELFT has been engaging with the public offering informational drop-in sessions aiming to raise awareness of autism. In the past week, the team has worked closely with local communities to address the challenges faced by autistic people.

Those who attended found out about the unique needs of autistic children and adults, highlighting the importance of support in the community. By offering the public a chance to understand autism the team hopes that this will give people the opportunity to gain insight into autism and see the strengths and talents that autistic people bring to their communities.

The service has also hosted a variety of webinars for staff across the Trust to get involved with.

Keeley Olive, NELFT Adult Autism Service Delivery Manager, said:

‘We celebrate Autism Acceptance Week to raise awareness, promote acceptance, and create a community where autistic people are supported, understood, and empowered. It is important for the positive impact created during Autism Acceptance Week to be continued all year round to build a more inclusive world for autistic people.’

By taking part in Autism Acceptance Week, NELFT’s Adult Autism Service plays a huge role in shifting perceptions and promoting a culture of inclusion and understanding.

The team would like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved in the activities throughout the week!
