Loneliness Awareness Week: How to embrace connection
To mark Loneliness Awareness Week at NELFT we want to raise awareness, encourage conversations and foster supportive communities.
Loneliness is a natural human emotion, rooted in our inherent need for social connections.
This awareness week aims to tackle stigma associated with loneliness. The week presents opportunities to make connections, strengthen relationships and build supportive networks. By openly discussing loneliness, we can provide invaluable support to ourselves and those around us, contributing to the creation of a more connected society.
Tackling loneliness can take time and effort. Here are some helpful tips from the Marmalade Trust on how to tackle loneliness:
-
Reach out to others by taking the initiative to connect with family, friends, neighbours or colleagues.
-
Join local coffee mornings, book clubs, walking clubs or if you enjoy baking, join neighbourhood bake sales.
-
Engage in volunteer work to connect with different people and contribute to a cause you care about.
-
Join online communities and connect with individuals who understand your situation and can provide a sense of belonging and support.
