In Conversation with the Regional Director for NHS London, Caroline Clarke, at the Future of Primary Care Webinar

Mohit Venkataram and Caroline Clarke

This month's "Future of Primary Care" webinar featured an insightful session with one of the leading voices in healthcare, Caroline Clarke, Regional Director of NHS London. The session opened with a dialogue with the audience, posing thought-provoking questions about how NHS London can empower primary care colleagues. This approach allowed for genuine engagement, providing participants with the opportunity to interact directly with a senior leader.

Caroline touched upon the findings from the Lord Darzi report, offering her analysis into the report's implications for healthcare in London. Her breakdown highlighted challenges and opportunities, giving attendees a clearer understanding of how the report's recommendations might shape the future of primary care.

There was a presentation of London’s Transformation Strategy, highlighting the shared vision for the city "to be the world's healthiest global city and the best global city in which to receive health and care services." The Fast Track Cities Initiative and the implementation of virtual wards, showcasing London's ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for its residents were discussed.

NHS London’s plan on a page was shared, outlining six key priorities moving forward, which included:

  1. Prevention
  2. Digital Access
  3. Long-Term Condition Management
  4. Novel Care Pathways
  5. Mental Health
  6. Children and Young People Services

The session drew a wide range of questions, particularly around the use of technology within primary care, how to effectively share best practices, and the importance of partnership working.

Dr Mohit Venkataram, webinar host and NELFT Deputy CEO, summed up the session:

“There are so many things about this webinar that have left me with a sense of positivity. It was incredibly refreshing to have a conversation with someone with Caroline's level of expertise and influence on the today and tomorrow of health.”
