AHPs Day 14 October 2020: celebrating at NELFT
On October 14th each year, the annual Allied Health Professions (AHPs) Day takes place across the country. This is an opportunity to recognise the contribution of AHPs to patient care and population health, as well as a chance to get to know and celebrate their skills and achievements.
AHPs are the second largest workforce within NELFT, with approximately 1000 AHPs across nine different professions including art therapists, drama therapists, dietitians, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists. As a staff group AHPs at NELFT are represented clinically at senior levels including at the Clinical Priorities Advisory Group (CPAG) and Incident Management Team (IMT).
Christopher Tuckett, Associate Director of AHPs at NELFT said: “AHPs Day is a fantastic opportunity for our amazing AHPs to demonstrate the huge variety of skills they possess and services that they deliver. They work across many different specialties with patients from all backgrounds and abilities, they are true multi-disciplinary heroes!”
This year is a significant one for AHPs, who have played a significant role in the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of professions have also marked significant milestone anniversaries, including 75 years of speech and language therapy in the UK and the 100 year anniversary of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy being granted royal chartered status.
