Language Focussed Play Pre-school Project (including termly visits)
The Language Focussed Play (LFP) approach uses evidence-based strategies to support children’s language development.
This project will enable pre-schools to provide a LFP Programme within their setting. An identified member of staff will receive a full training package and support to develop the programme.
The staff member will be responsible for:
- Identifying five children who would benefit from LFP
- Attending the training session and onsite training
- Providing five minutes of LFP for each child at least three times a week
- Monitoring progress
- Supporting the evaluation of the project
Who will benefit from the LFP programme?
LFP will benefit children
- with delayed language skills
- with English as an additional language (EAL)
- who are reluctant talkers
The training package
A member of staff from your setting will receive the following package FREE of Charge:
- A half day class based training on Language Focussed Play and RESPOND
- 6 individual training sessions in your setting
- Accreditation as a LFP Facilitator
- Termly visits to support speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in your setting
- Monitoring tools to measure progress

This half-day training is free for all practitioners working with pre-school children.
Who will benefit from Language Focussed Play?
LFP will benefit children
- with delayed language skills
- with English as an additional language (EAL)
- who are reluctant talkers
Training will cover:
- Language development in pre-school children
- Adult Child Interaction
- RESPOND - Strategies to develop interaction
- ACT (a tally form to measure interaction)
- RESPOND checklist
- Language Focussed Play
- Optional coaching sessions

Speech sound development and how to support children with speech sound difficulties.
This half-day training is free for all practitioners working with pre-school children.
