Patient and Public Involvement in Quality Improvement
We are delighted to announce that our improvement teams are currently exploring innovative solutions to have Patient Public Involvement (PPI) in audit and quality improvement projects. With patients at the heart of everything we do, our aim is to help develop and set up a process for an established an effective system for more PPI and therefore, we have started a joint learning exercise involving the wider QI team with the support of Health Care Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP).
Why is patient engagement important?
Involving patients in decisions about their own care, treatment and support can enhance patients outcomes and experience, quality of life, and the delivery of more appropriate and cost-effective services. If patients are regarded as equal partners in healthcare, they would actively participate in their own health care process, and more carefully monitor their own care. So, the challenge now is to shift the focus of care and support services from “what is the matter with you?” towards “what matters to you?”.
